MPD: Heroin addiction led man to rob banks – Madison Crime Report

K9 leads police to evidence in bank robbery cases

Image from US Bank robbery and Wells Fargo Bank robberyMADISON, Wis. -A man arrested on suspicion of two Madison bank robberies was motivated by a heroin addiction, according to a release from Madison police.Chad A. Legner, 40, of Reedsburg, was arrested on Sauk County on a probation hold the afternoon after the Feb. 21 robbery of a Wells Fargo Bank on East Towne Boulevard. Police said a K9 led officers to evidence that helped identify Legner.

Police said Legner is also connected to the Feb. 3 robbery of a US Bank branch also on East Towne Boulevard.

The lead detective said Legner is likely to face charges for other crimes in the area.
